He bought it to be able to take nice pictures of all the tattoos he does. All the guys have portfolios but they are extremely out of date. Like four years out of date.
I kind of like it like that, because when there's that awkward moment when a client asks if their tattoo can go into the portfolio I just say
"oh, these guys never update these things!"
But anyway the new camera he got made me super jealous and I got all chatty about how I wish I had one.
He was like "what are you using now?"
and I showed him this.

and he was all "Whaaaat! I thought you had a real camera."
No, I just have this fake one.
Anyway I was all "oh, the things I could do with a fancy camera, bla bla bla" and I even started blabbing on about Holga cameras and how I like them so much.

(this is a Holga camera...with accessories?)
Guy at work was like "I have a camera you can use, but it's not digital"
So of course I was all "YES PLEASE"
but now I feel like I have to put my money where my mouth is and take amazing shots all the time or something.
Sometimes I get good ones with my little fujifilm but it's because we know each other so well...I'm afraid of the film camera. How am I supposed to know if I'm doing things right? And NO INSTANT GRATIFICATION? That's unheard of.
And what about the lenses? And the settings? I'm super excited to try it out. I love the feeling when you take a picture with an analog* camera and you can feel the satisfying "SNAP".
I'm also pretty stoked about trying things without my camera automatically adjusting the light settings for me without my permission, or deciding I need flash WHEN I DON'T WANT FLASH DAMNIT.
Anyway...YAY! This is going to rule!
*i don't know if they're actually called "analog" ... that's the opposite of digital though, right? Maybe?

One more thing. I think I'm going to bring back the word "Chesterfield" for "couch".
My grandma says it. Isn't all that stuff your grandparents did when they were kids SOOOO COOOL now?

i feel *exactly* the same way about painting... it's like i get this whole feeling after i tell someone i paint. then it's like well maybe *you* won't like it. but art is so individual. anywho, good luck with your new toy! it's gonna be neat :)
I'm a film fan. When you get a good one, it's more special and rare because you didn't have the luxury of snapping 1,000 shots.
The only film camera I've had was embarrassing and I think I was 12, so no help there, although I did like the digitals at work and was sad when I had to leave them..."Please, have a seat on the chesterfield." Yes, sounds good. I also like the ring of "divan" for couch as in, "Junior! Get the fuck off the divan so grandma can sit down!" The funny thing is, I've only ever heard people from Oklahoma call it that.
Chesterfield? That's awesome!
I love 35mms! There's a whole different feel to the pictures, and you can get some spooky weird effects without really having a clue what you're doing. (my method:p)
Having just spent a fortune on a Digital SLR I can tell you that I love it. It's heavy it’s difficult to take place - like gigs (but that becomes part of the challenge). photography is not just about the equipment, at least 70% is having an eye for a shot. What I like about digital over (love your term for it) Analogue is that it allows you to experiment and play around, yes I take the point that some people make that they don’t like the fact that people take lots of shots to get a good one (I have a similar feeling about Photoshop to improve a picture. Currently I crop and nothing else, but that might change….) but at the end of the day isn’t the important thing that you get the shot…
I have spent a lot of the time letting the camera do the work and I'm now getting more confident to start playing around with the settings and look to improve my technique. If you have time come and meet the beast The beast. Proof of what people can do with an none SLR digital try a great little blog that I like Picture imperfect .
i envy your new gadget. there isn't much that makes me happier than a new tech or art toy.
Yay on the new header! I ate Miss Chief after I took this picture. nom nom Chiefy.
@becky YOU PAINT? Prove it. jk
@steamy I know, I've been looking forward to having to plan my shots a little more carefully
@Harna I don't even know what a divan is. Sounds fancy. Have you seen that family guy episode? Where Brian dates a 50 year old? You should. You'd get it.
@mr.c Yeah but it's taking some practice, to make the word roll off the tongue.
@Mona I know, I can't wait to make mistakes and then pretend I meant to do it.
@BL I've been trying not to use photoshop or anything lately. It's like cheating.
@brad Yay!
@steamy what is it? I don't get what it is. Looks like you ate a lot of letters though.
